  London
Back from vacation...

Though the focus of this blog is not political, I must comment on the attacks in London this week. As so many others have already said, but I must as well, attacking civilians just shows the cowardice of the enemy. They know that they cannot fight us directly, so they seek to sow fear and dissent. It worked in Spain, I guess...

I grew up during the end of the Cold War. During that time, I felt pretty secure as a civilian. Our military was strong and we were keeping a constant eye on the Soviets and other "commies". This is now all changed. We are now all part of this battle.

I have been reading Gates of Fire, a novel about the battle of Thermopylae. I am gaining an understanding of how all of Spartan society prepared for battle. I think it is time that we began to understand that just leaving the battle to the military is not enough. What am I recommending? I am no expert, and this blog is not necessarily the place for it. There are those who are trying to figure out how this must be all our fault, or if we only "understood" the enemy better, then this wouldn't happen. To them, I say that your belief in the goodness of humanity will lead to the destruction of our society. While I am very hesitant to use military action as a solution (I was against our going into Iraq, but not Afghanistan), I am not sure we have a choice anymore. I think that maybe it is time to seek out the enemy and, as John McCain said yesterday, "destroy them".

My Accident

As many of you know, I was in a bad accident on October 9, 2006. The posts I wrote about the accident have scrolled off the main page, so you'll want to go to the entries labeled "accident" to get to them in case that is why you are here. Of course, I do have a lot of other interesting things to say...
